Hutchinson Racks Up Five Assists, Britton Nets Three Goals

SAINT LEO, Fla –  Sophomore Kevin Hutchinson dished out five assists as the Saint Leo men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-8 south region contest to No. 10 Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon at University Turf Stadium.

The loss marks the Lions' third-straight, and drops their overall record to 7-6 on the season, while the nationally-ranked Falcons advance their record to 9-3.

Hutchinson led the team in points notching the team's only assists of the day, followed by Miles Britton who netted a hat trick on the day.  Matt Obermeyer and Dylan Yonts scored two each, while Ryan Burke added one of his own.

The Falcons were led by Derek Thomas and Tucker Hammock, who each posted three goals on the day.  Hammock led the team in points, adding two assists for a five point game.

Dave Moore made five saves while allowing nine goals in 25 minutes of action.  Jesse Leeman closed out the game for the Lions, earning eight saves while allowing six goals on 14 shots faced.  Hayden Kirk saw the majority of the time between the pipes for the Falcons, allowing just six goals while making 16 saves on 22 shots faced.  Joe Capstaff closed out the game for Pfeiffer, allowing two goals and making two saves in four minutes of play.

The Falcons opened up the game putting four goals on the board, but an unassisted goal by Yonts broke the streak to put the Lions on the board with 1:30 left in the first quarter.  Yonts was able to convert on a man-up opportunity just 17 seconds later to cut the Lions' deficit to two, but a goal by Spencer Allen with five ticks on the clock gave Pfeiffer a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.

Britton opened up the second stanza with a goal just 17 seconds in to pull the Lions to within two, 5-3, but Pfeiffer netted the next to pull ahead 6-3 with 12:23 on the clock.  Hutchinson connected to Obermeyer for a man-up goal three minutes later, but three straight by the Falcons extended their lead to 9-4 with 4:43 to go before the half.

Saint Leo scored two straight thanks to Britton and Burke to pull to within three, 9-6, but another late goal by the Falcons set the score at 10-6 at the half.

Pfeiffer scored two in the third quarter while holding the Lions off of the scoreboard to pull ahead to a 12-6 advantage, and continued its momentum throughout the final period to outscore the Lions 3-2 to close out the game with a seven goal lead.
