Coors named to WGCA All-South Region team

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's golf senior Marie Coors was tabbed for the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-South Region team, which was announced Friday.

This marks the third time Coors has claimed WGCA All-South Region honors; she was also an All-South Region selection in 2014 and 2016, and both times went on to earn All-America honors as well.

The accolade is but the most recent for Coors, who earlier in the week was named Sunshine State Conference Women's Golfer of the Year for the second year in a row, as well as a First Team All-SSC selection. She was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) At-Large Academic All-District team on Thursday.

Coors has a 71.93 stroke average through 28 rounds this season, and she is currently the top women's golfer in Division II based on stroke average according to GolfStat. She won the Florida Southern Lady Moc Classic and the Florida Tech Lady Panther Invitational this spring, and finished among the top five in nine tournaments over the course of the 2016-17 season.

Most recently, Coors finished third overall at the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Super Regional, which concluded Wednesday in Elgin, S.C., and earned an individual berth in the NCAA Division II National Championship. She will be competing in the national championship for the third time in her career; this year's NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship will take place May 17-20, 2017, in Findlay, Ohio.

Joining Coors on the All-South Region team out of the Sunshine State Conference were Seher Atwal and Lexie Toth (Rollins); Brittany LaPadula and Paola Ortiz (Florida Tech); and Tilda Larsson and Charlotte Puts (Barry). Franziska Bremm (West Georgia), Paloma Vaccaro (West Florida), and Elaine Wood (Montevallo) rounded out the All-South Region squad.
