SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University will recognize National Girls and Women in Sports Day when they host a FREE sports clinic on the morning of Feb. 25 before the softball team's doubleheader with Embry-Riddle, where Tampa Bay Area native and 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Melanie Margalis, will be in attendance.
Melanie Margalis, a 2014 graduate of the University of Georgia, won a gold medal with the U.S. women's 4x200 freestyle relay team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Margalis, a 2010 graduate of Countryside high school, was a four-time letterwinner on the Georgia Bulldogs swim team where she helped the team capture the NCAA Division I national title in 2013 and 2014.
The day will start with a sports clinic for elementary and middle school boys and girls on the University Soccer Field at 10:00 a.m. This event will expose participants to a variety of sports and will teach introductory developmental skill by Saint Leo NCAA student-athletes.
Once the clinic concludes at 11:45 a.m., participants are invited to stay for free pizza and the softball doubleheader which starts at 12 p.m. at University Softball Stadium.
